OUR STORY

Students standing outside of Breaking Away at our come and go event to thank the staff at HSCDSB for their continued support and providing us a space to run our program.

Breaking Away is a registered not-for-profit organization in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, dedicated to supporting adults with developmental disabilities. Our life skills program encourages personal growth, independence, and community integration by focusing on each participant’s individual strengths and goals.

Our program runs weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Mount St. Joseph Centre, guided by our experienced program director, program assistant, and support staff.

The name, “Breaking Away” reflects our belief that everyone deserves the chance to break away from others’ perceptions and from the limitations created by lack of opportunity. Our mission is to ensure that adults with developmental disabilities continue to learn, grow, and thrive beyond high school and throughout their lives.

Breaking Away is more than a respite service — we offer a goal-oriented, engaging environment that challenges and empowers participants while fostering a sense of joy and belonging.
